Preventative Dental Hygiene for Children

Just like adults, children need to have a preventative dental program in place that includes regular trips to the Vancouver dentist. Your child’s first visit to the dentist can be as early as age 1, but definitely needs to happen by the time all their baby teeth have come in (usually between 2 and 3 years of age). The goal is to have your child visit the dentist before there is a problem with his or her teeth.

Yaletown Laser & Cosmetic Dentistry would like to remind parents that they have a big role to play in keeping their child’s teeth healthy and clean. By implementing a regular dental routine and good eating habits, parents can help their children develop life-long habits that will help reduce the development of tooth decay.

As a parent, the onus is on you to help your children develop good oral hygiene techniques that will stay with them for life. One way to do that is by establishing a fun oral hygiene routine that you and your child can do every day.

During your visit, your dentist may want to take X-rays which help show decay between the teeth and in order to make sure that the teeth are coming in the way they should. Your child’s dentist may also talk to you about fluoride, brushing, and flossing techniques.
